Marianna's Agency Newsletter - January 21, 2012 Hello everyone, Here in Ukraine we have many interesting holidays, but one of them - "Malanka" is the funniest and very exotic holiday. This year on January 15 we had Malanka Festival and Parade in Chernovtsy. Thousands of people came to Chernovtsy for this holiday. The parade was great. There were many different floats and many dresses up people in the parade. There were also other holiday activities are around town such as holiday concert, singing, dancing, festivals and much more.    Usually "Malanka" is celebrated on January 13-14. This holiday is a lot like Halloween in USA, but only for adults. This holiday is celebrated in many cities of Ukraine and especially in small villages. The holiday starts at night from 13th to 14th of January. All city dwellers dress up in fairy tail costumes with masks. Then they walk from home to home and scare away evil spirits. Costumes of "grandmother" and "grandfather" are traditional for this holiday. But people also wear costumes of "Gypsy", "devil", "bride and groom", "soldier", "bear" and much more. Only men dress up in costumes. They also make different funny plays from everyday life to entertain people. The holiday finishing by traditional swimming in the local river (people clear from bad energy and gain good energy).
