Marianna's Agency Newsletter - April 6, 2012 Hello everyone, Easter is the most important holiday in Ukraine. It is even much more important than Christmas. This year we will celebrate Easter on April 15. Ukrainian Easter celebration has lots of interesting traditions and customs. On evening before Easter family gets together and prepare the Easter basket. The most popular food that Ukrainians put in Easter basket are: oranges, apples, green onions, homemade sausage, brisket, garlic, colored Easter eggs, butter, salt, Paska (sweet Easter bread with raisins and walnuts), cheese, red wine, horse-radish and some money. The money in Easter basket meant to give family prosperity and those money can not be exchanged or given away. On Easter morning whole family gets up early and go to church. The father/head of the family usually carry Easter basket to church. In church everyone lights candle. Also very beautiful candle should be lighted and but in the Easter basket. Then comes pope and blesses the food and people with holly water. Pope also congratulates everyone with Easter. Then whole family gets back home and have holiday breakfast. The first meal should be only from Easter basket. But before that every one should eat some "Dora" - the bread that was given in church on Easter morning. After breakfast whole family enjoys quality family time together. Later this day people go visit each other and bring with you small Easter baskets with food as a gift. If you want to congratulate your lady with Easter or start communication with the lady - it is a very good time for it.
